Basic electrical theory (1 day)

This one day course takes delegates from the basics of electricity to correctly specifying circuits using the IET Wiring Regulations.

There is a mathematical content which will be taught, although candidates would benefit from an ability to use basic algebra in the form of equations such as Ohms Law.

Topics include:

  • single and three-phase generation and theory
  • protective earthing
  • operation of protective devices and selectivity
  • cable calculations
  • working out fault currents
  • testing and generator loading

Candidates will need to bring with them their own copy of BS 7671 (the On-site Guide is not sufficient) and a calculator.
